Blue Marine Foundation Coordinator (South-West)

A vacancy has arisen for a Coordinator (South-West) to join the Blue Marine Foundation team. The Coordinator will be part of a team responsible for developing and managing BLUE’s Lyme Bay Fisheries and Conservation Reserve and other projects in the South West. BLUE’s highly successful project in Lyme Bay, for the last five years has not only achieved conservation improvements, but also improved livelihoods of local fishermen. The post-holder should have a good understanding of UK fisheries and at least three years’ experience in delivering UK or international marine conservation projects. Experience working directly with fishermen a positive.

The candidate is expected to have excellent communication and presentation skills (written and verbal), strong project management skills with some experience in project planning, financial management, reporting and evaluation. He or she should have strong organisational skills, with a structured and methodical approach to work. Knowledge of submitting fund-raising applications would be advantageous.

The person should be enthusiastic, hardworking and a good team player. An ability to think laterally and creatively and to work under pressure is a great advantage.

The successful applicant will need to be based in the South-West and will work from home.

Salary:
£26,000 per annum

Contract: 12 months fixed-term renewable contract
Holidays: 5 weeks leave per annum plus national holidays

Role & responsibilities:

  • Responsible for managing and delivering BLUE’s flagship Lyme Bay project on a day to day basis.
  • Managing and working with Lyme Bay fishermen to deliver Reserve management
  • Ensuring all technology within the Reserve is operational
  • Coordinate Lyme Bay Consultative Committee meetings
  • Managing BLUE’s Reserve Seafood scheme and its operational processes
  • Working with partner and contracted organisations in the development of proposals and assisting in the management of the operation and outputs of Lyme Bay under the guidance of the UK team.
  • Building and maintaining relationships with key project partners (e.g. IFCAs, Natural England, Wildlife Trusts, Fisherman’s Associations) and providing effective liaison and communication between them, and the UK team.
  • Representing BLUE and/or projects at project, internal and external meetings, as and when required
  • Being responsible for maintaining basic workflow and other organisational spreadsheets to improve the efficiency and strategic management of projects
  • Sourcing, compilation and interpretation of data and information
  • Writing reports and proposals for internal and external consumption
  • Maintaining records of funding incomes, funder requirements and deadlines for necessary reporting and initiating these reports in a timely fashion
  • Familiarisation with all published or available research studies, data and information relevant to Lyme Bay and providing summaries of these, as appropriate, to the project and wider BLUE team.
  • Ensuring structured communication of all project issues internally and maintaining liaison with any outside communications consultants
  • Providing content, guidance and technical support to BLUE fundraisers in their efforts to raise funds for UK projects
  • Being a key part of the team responsible for developing and implementing BLUE’s UK strategy for the introduction of best-practice conservation and fisheries management to inshore marine sites in the South-West.

Candidate profile:

  • A minimum of 3 years relevant full time work experience
  • Science background in marine biology, environmental disciplines, economics or fisheries
  • Able to handle local sensibilities and deal with fishermen
  • Data literate
  • Ability to uncover and source data and information, often with limited resources
  • Self-sufficient and able to work on own initiative
  • Clear, concise and accurate writing skills
  • Ability to write funding applications and reports
  • Committed attention to detail
  • Command of usual computer programmes
  • Effective communicator
  • Good inter-personal skills and a team player
  • Clean driving licence and access to car for frequent travel around the South-West region
